At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The theatricalized festival “Illusions of Old Village” that already became traditional was held in the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes on June 9, 2013, within the framework of the Ferapontovo Fair. This year the museum employees have chosen the subject “The village 100 years ago” and have tried to show everyday life of countrymen in 1913.

Guests of the holiday could see local residents dressed in the costumes of the early 20th century and sketches of the village life. The playing and entertaining program was prepared by students of the Vologda Regional Training School of Culture under the direction of their teacher V.L. Nuzhina.

Children and their parents were pleased to take part in the village prizes-for-all lottery. They got different prizes, such as a 3 liter jar of cow milk, chicken and goose eggs, pickled cucumbers, and potatoes. Those who joined in the lottery could visit all exhibitions and expositions of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes.

During the festival, all people could have their pictures taken in the photo salon and could try on the clothing of the early 20th century. Local craftsmen – potters S. Fenveshi, V. Tyulin, V. Kholshchagin, A. Gurin; smith N. Mitin, N. Kuznetsova (lace-making), and O. Pestereva (birth bark weaving) - presented their hand-made articles and delivered master-classes for everybody. We thank the masters for active assistance in the organization of museum events.

The guests also had a chance to take part in the village fashion show; the most active among them were given presents. People liked the holiday and promised to come next year wearing historical costumes to win the main prizes.

The participants of the festival could also learn to dance Ferapontovskaya quadrille. They were given certificates and small souvenirs.

The visitors thanked the museum employees and the organizers of the holiday and wished them new creative ideas. They suggested holding such events as often as possible.
