History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The ensemble of Old Russian music “Znameniye (Sign)” of the N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory sang in the functional Church of St. Kirill Belozersky located on the grounds of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve last Sunday. The liturgy lasted two hours and it was chanted by the soloists of the ensemble. It was concluded with a religious procession. It was the first performance of the ensemble in Kirillov. The musicians from St. Petersburg came to the Vologda region within the framework of the celebrations of the 1150th anniversary of the Slavic Writing.

The ensemble “Znameniye” was founded in the Sub-Department of Ancient Russian Art of Singing in 1994. It has been headed by teacher Tatiana Shvets since 2002.

Old Russian chants - the greatest part of Russian church music - form the basis of the ensemble repertoire. All chants are performed according to authentic notations reflecting all nuances of ancient melodies. Love for Old Russian singing art and wish to present ancient traditions of Russian church singing to the wide audience unite the members of the ensemble – students and graduates of the N.A. Rimsky-Korsakov Saint Petersburg State Conservatory.

The ensemble participated in international festivals of church music (including festivals which were held abroad), gave concerts in the Russian Museum (within the framework of the tour and music season ticket “Russian art and music of the 15th-20th centuries), the Suvorov Memorial Museum and so on. This ensemble always takes part in the International Scientific and Creative Symposium “Brazhnikovsky Readings” and the festivals of Znamenny Chant (echoes chant). Besides, its members sing in the combined choir of the International Festival “Academy of Orthodox Music”.
