History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.

At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.

Folk art of the Belozersk district

Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Festival “Illusions of Old Village. Ferapontovo 100 years ago”: program of event

We invite you to get to the atmosphere of the festival “Illusions of Old Village. Ferapontovo 100 years ago”!

It will take place in the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes on June 9, 2013. The theatricalized festival will begin at noon. His Excellency the Governor will participate in the opening ceremony and will greet all guests.

The program of the holiday which is due to be held from 12:00 to 15:00 will include: screening of the films of the early 20^th century, a music performance near the administrative building, an exhibition of family photographs entitled “Faces of the Epoch – Children of the Village”, children’s amusements and games, satiric sketches, and a traditional Russian tea party.

Besides, a contest for the best historical costume of the early 20^th century will be organized during the festival. Guests who will be dressed in the stylized costumes of the early 20^th century will be able to take part in a village fashion show and to get prizes.

A potter, a cooper, a smith and a lace-maker will tell you about secrets of their crafts and will showcase their skills on the grounds of the museum.

During the festival, you will be able to watch films (at 13:00, 14:30 and 15:30), to have your pictures taken in the photo salon, to see museum exhibitions, to make a tour of the Old Village (it will begin at 14:00 near the main entrance to the monastery), to play games and to participate in the village prizes-for-all lottery.
