The exhibition “Mosaic” was opened in the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes. It is made by Alexey Protsenko and Alexey Nosenko – Moscow’s muralists, teachers of Stroganov Moscow State University of Arts and Industry. The display presents the mosaic icon “The Virgin of Korsun”, photographs of the implemented projects and technology of the process: smalt and tools.
According to the design, interpretation of the form and peculiarities of the colour solutions, the artists’ works go back to the Byzantine heritage, the Moscow icon-painting school of the 15th-16th centuries and the best traditions of the Russian academic school. Nuances of the smalt tints allow the artists to achieve fine modeling of the forms of faces, hands and ornamented garments of the depicted saints. Gold, ocherous, silver-grey or deep blue backgrounds give special solemnity to the figures.
Knowledge of traditions, high-class workmanship and the culture of mosaic creation inherent in the artists help to revive church art in modern Russia.
