The monument to the firemen and rescuers died in the line of duty has been unveiled on the ground of the Fire Station № 10 in Kirillov today. It is worth reminding that erection of the memorial was initiated after the last year’s road accident which had occurred at the entrance to the town. The employees of the Ministry of Emergency Situations had died in that accident.

Many people attended the unveiling ceremony of the monument. Among them: Vologda Oblast Governor Oleg Kuvshinnikov; Yuri Vorobyov, deputy chairman of the Council of Federation, Hero of Russia; Georgy Shevtsov, chairman of the Oblast Legislative Assembly; staff and veterans of the Central Administrative board of the Ministry of Emergency Situations in the Vologda Oblast; relatives of the fallen employees, members of the public.

The Governor addressed himself to the parents and colleagues of the fallen officers with words of encouragement. He also thanked various organizations and usual residents of the Vologda region for their help in the erection of the monument: it was set up owing to extra-budgetary funds. “I am grateful to everybody who took part in preparation and unveiling of this memorial. I hope the list of names on it will be limited to these four. May their memory live on forever!” said Oleg Kuvshinnikov.

The new monument was made of red granite in the form of two steles, a bell and a small brick wall. The names of four fallen officers of the Ministry of Emergency Situations are carved on the wall: Alexander Malyshev, Mikhail Bibiksarov, Vyacheslav Glebov and Alexander Sorokin. The author of the memorial is architect Boris Beyder. The bell was made by sculptor Andrey Shirokov (St. Petersburg).
