History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The Eleventh Kirillov’s Readings were held in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Along with those participants who lived in Kirillov, reporters of Vologda, Belozersk, Ferapontovo, and Nikolsky Torzhok came to the conference. Among them there were employees of the museums and different cultural institutions, a student of the History Department in Vologda State Teachers’ Training University, and pupils – winners of the district stage of the conference “World through culture”.

The readings lasted the whole day with small breaks. Mikhail Sharomazov, director of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve, noted in his welcome speech that not only adults, specialists in different spheres, but also pupils gathered in the conference hall. Presented topics were various. Employees of the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve gave reports about collections on the whole and separate exhibits from the collections in particular, iconography, and memorials of Kirillov. Pupils told about famous people, defence of the monastery and a traditional Russian doll. Viktor Kalachyov, student of Vologda State Teachers’ Training University, described the state of collective farms of the Kovarzino rural council during the Great Patriotic War.

The report about the artists G.E. Satel and A.S. Kalganova presented by Alexey Mokievsky, confessor of the Goritsy Convent of the Resurrection, was of great interest. Even if there is a resident of Kirillov who has never visited museums, he certainly knows the works of these famous people of art (Georgy Satel is a laureate of the State Prize of the USSR). Their pictures decorated the walls of the post office in the town once. But after the repair, there was no place for them.

At present we can say that the work of the Eleventh Kirillov’s Readings has not been completed yet: soon all reports submitted at the conference will be published in a scientific collected book.
