An exhibition on the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the crowning of the first Romanov tsar – Mikhail Fyodorovich - is due to be opened in the House of the Father Superior on January 5.
The history of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery, one of the largest monasteries in Russia, was closely connected with the Romanov dynasty. Its representatives visited both the monastery and the town of Kirillov. According to the inventories and other documents, they made generous donations. Some of them are kept in the museum holdings and will be presented at the new exhibition.
It will tell about the reign of Mikhail Fyodorovich, Alexey Mikhailovich, Peter I, Catherine II, Alexander I, Nickolas I and the last representatives of the dynasty. One part will be devoted to the construction of the Mariinsky Water System which started under Paul I.
You will be able to see unique exhibits, including the armchair made by patriarch Nikon, famous church reformer who was exiled first to the Ferapontov monastery and then to the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery.
