History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

The holiday “Wide Maslenitsa” will take place in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve on March 17. It will begin at noon.

Its program will include performances of students of the Vologda Regional Training School of Culture, Elena Vyazigina and Gennady Golubev, Elena Antonova. Guests from Vologda and Cherepovets will also appear on the scene: Lyubov Zvereva, the music ensemble of Elena Obukhova “Zabava (Amusement)”, groups of the Song Theatre “Russian Button Accordion” under the direction of Pyotr and Irena Bartosh.

You will be able to take part in numerous contests, to go on the rides, to play with life-size puppets, and, of course, to have hot tea with pancakes. Pancakes will be baked in the open air!

The celebrations of Maslenitsa or the Pancake Week will culminate in seeing off the winter and greeting the spring.

The price for entrance tickets is the following: a family ticket (up to 4 persons) - 200 rubles, single visitors - 200 rubles for adults and 50 rubles for children. Admission for large families is free.

Master-classes in pottery will begin in the “Doll’s House” of Marina Vasilieva at noon.

A puppet play “Adventures of the Snowman” (a winter fairy tale for kids of 2 years and over) with participation of Vologda’s actors and a playing program will be organized in the conference-hall of the museum especially for preschool children at 12:30 and 14:30 (a ticket costs 150 rubles).

Besides, the exhibition “Book Heritage” marking the 1150th anniversary of the invention of Slavic Writing will be opened on this day. An opening ceremony will be held in the House of the Father Superior at 15:00.
