History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Schoolchildren often go to see the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. They visit our exhibitions and expositions and attend lessons in the clubs organized in the museum. But it will be the first time almost all pupils of the Kirillov secondary school will come to us within a very short period of time. It will take only three days to implement the project “Visiting the museum”. Its main objectives are to bring up children to love their small Motherland and to tell them about the culture of the Vologda and Belozersk region.

The first part of the scheduled events was held on February 6. Thematic tours were conduced for all fourth-form boys and girls. They learnt a lot of interesting things about the folk art of the Belozersk region, the craftsmanship of doll-making and Russian clay toys.

Museum employees gave lectures for pupils of the middle school. Fifth-formers got acquainted with the peasant way of life, in particular with the traditional Russian log house, in the conference hall. Sixth-formers went to the department of written sources and familiarized themselves with the history of the Russian book. Eighth-form boys and girls attended the lecture on the subject “Scientific library of the museum-reserve. The past and the present”.

Besides, two tours about the Russian stove and the town of Kirillov were conducted in the Museum of town and district history within the framework of the new project yesterday.
