History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Employees of the Museum of Dionisy’s Frescoes hold an event titled “Winter Amusements” last Saturday, on January 26. The day was wonderful - the weather was sunny, windless and not cold. The holiday was opened with the performance of Elena Vyazigina that cheered up all people without exception.

This event was destined for family rest and attraction of local residents to the museum activity. 350 people participated in it. The playing entertaining program prepared by students of the Vologda Regional Training School of Culture included contests, games and a relay. Children and adults took part in them with pleasure and received sweets gifts. The most active visitors of museum exhibitions were given toys. Everybody could have their pictures taken against the background of snow figures made for the contest “Winter fantasies”. Its participants also got prizes and were greatly pleased.

During the holiday, kids enjoyed sliding and snow tubing. Sometimes grown-ups joined them as well. Local craftsmen presented their articles in the museum and delivered master-classes in pottery, birth bark weaving, lace making, and wood carving. Besides, a lot of guests gathered on the ground floor of the Refectory to see a puppet-show of the Nativity. The holiday culminated in the storming of the snow fortress.

The museum employees received numerous favourite reviews. Guests suggested that such wonderful events should be organized as often as possible.

But even when the “Winter Amusements” came to an end, people didn’t go away; they danced, sledged and just walked admiring the unique nature of Ferapontovo.
