History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.

Monk’s cell

At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.

Folk art of the Belozersk district

Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

“New Year’s museum”. Program of events scheduled for January 2 to 8, 2013

We remind guests and residents of the town of a wonderful opportunity to spend winter vacation in an interesting way. The Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve has prepared a rich program of events for you during the holidays.

Four concerts will take place in the conference hall from January 2 to 4. Artyom Polkovnikov, Oksana Ivanova, groups of the Centre of Children’s Creative Activity, the Art school, the Youth centre “Alfa”, the District Cultural Centre, and Olga Kalinina, finalist of the popular show of Channel One “Minute of Fame”, will perform for you.

January 5 is announced the Family Day in the museum which will be rich in events, such as the military and historical festival, opening of the doll miniature club of People’s Master of Russia Marina Vasilieva and the exhibition “History of the monastery during the reign of the Romanovs”, performance of the vocal ensemble “White Lake”.

A meeting with local singer-songwriters Olga Emelicheva and Lyubov Emelicheva in the Museum of town and district history is scheduled for Christmas Eve. And on Christmas Day itself, we invite you to see a puppet play “Thumbelina”. Russia’s Honoured Artist Elena Tadlova will participate in it. The New Year’s program will be concluded with one more performance – “A Doll for Christmas Girl” prepared by pupils of the Sunday school.
