History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Nikolay Vasilievich Baskakov was born in 1928 in Kadnikov, Vologda region. Since 1946 till 1950 he studied at the school of Arts in Moscow. Then he graduated from the Institute of Arts in Moscow. He is a member of the Association of the Vologda artists and of the Association of the Russian artists. His works are in many Russian private and museum collections. Now he lives and works in Vologda.

The pictures of N.V.Baskakov are bright, expressive and multicolor. They stir up much emotion, which is peculiar to a creative person, who loves life. The painter always tries new methods of work. Creativity is the most important thing for him. 

In his early works N.V.Baskakov pays much attention to Vologda. One can see this theme in his portraits. He likes to paint scientists, writers, masters. One of the most interesting of these portraits is the “Writer Vasili Belov”(1967).  

Later Nikolay Baskskov painted series of unusual Vologda landscapes where he showed dramatic and mysterious world of the stone and wooden monuments.

N.V.Baskakov continues the art traditions of the painters of the Moscow school of painting of the end of the 19th – beginning of the 20th century. Many young painters followed him. Twelve of his learners are professional painters. Among them there are the Honored painters of Russia. Georgy Kalinin created his own system of painting. Nataly Vyatkina makes monumental, chamber and decorative sculpture in Moscow. E.Gusev, Y.Eltsov, N.Morozov and V.Zernov are the wonderful landscape painters.
