History of the region based on the materials of archeological excavations” is being opened on the lowest floor of the Church of the Presentation of the Virgin in the Temple with the refectory. It is the first full exhibition representing archaeology of the Belozersk district in the Vologda Region. Materials of the monastery archeology are displayed for the first time in our region. More than 4000 archeological objects dating back to different chronological periods are represented there: from the Mesolithic period (9000 B.C.) till the late Middle Ages.
At the end of the 20th – early 21st century considerable restoration work has been carried out in the Kirillo-Belozersky museum-reserve. Museumfication of the monuments is being realized at the same time. One of the most interesting architectural buildings of the Kirillo-Belozersky monastery is the Monks’ cells. In the process of its restoration architects and restorers managed to discover complicated structure of this dwelling house of the 17th-19th centuries.
Exhibitions dedicated to the folk applied art and handicrafts of the Belozersk district are placed in the spacious vaulted chambers of the monastery cook-house of the 16th century. An important place is occupied by wood-carving, ceramics, peasant embroidery, weaving, lace-making and a folk female costume of the 19th-early 20th centuries.

Its aim was to invite the attention of gifted children to the great heritage of Russian architects. It is not by chance that this theme of the contest was chosen. Over the course of history the medieval buildings delight with their considered proportionality and strict logic of architectural project. The unique monasteries and the marvelous examples of temple architecture remain in our country among them the Kirillo-Belozersky and Ferapontov monasteries with their Nativity Cathedral (1490) and Assumption Cathedral (1497), the most ancient stone buildings of the Russian North. The popularization of these complexes was one of the objects of the contest.

Pupils of children’s art schools, art studios and of creative workshops were asked to take part in the contest. Children at the age of 5-16 years could participate in the contest. Children from the Vologda, Kostroma, Yaroslavl, Sverdlovsk and other regions of our country sent to the museum 170 drawings for the contest.

Display “Architecture of Medieval Rus” opened in the exhibition hall of the museum of Dyonisy’s frescoes in October is the result of the contest. This display provides inside into the high level of art education in our country and discovers the problems of comprehensive school in regard to art. In the children’s drawing one can see the monuments of wooden and stone architecture dated back to the 17th century and the architecture of the Kievan Rus, the Vladimir-Suzdalian  principality, Novgorod, Pskov and of Moscow.  All the drawings are notable for the artistic expression, the author’s interpretation of theme, the composition of drawing and for its colour and graphic solutions. The winners of the contest got the books about Dyonisy’s frescoes and the monasteries of the region of the White lake. All the participants of the contest received diplomas and booklets.

The high results would be impossible without talented and responsive teachers. The museum of Dyonisy’s frescoes thanks the teachers and wishes them success and new discoveries.
